Academic Learning
Few schools can match the range of ways in which Caulfield Grammar School provides quality teaching and quality learning. Our extensive professional development program and specialist teachers approach, mean that our teachers know more than ever before about how students best learn and how teachers best teach and learn.All teaching staff undertake weekly, strategic and focused professional development; they receive a formal appraisal every two years - including classroom visitation and student feedback; and are supported by our own professional development program conducted by CGS Extension Services.
To enhance teaching and to encourage a positive learning culture, our teaching staff have developed their own guiding principles, known as the Characteristics of Quality Teaching for Quality Learning and include;
- modelling learning and a passion for learning
- having high expectations and challenging students with significant issues
- providing quality feedback to enhance further learning
- catering for a diversity of interests and abilities
- making connections between learning experiences and with the real world
- teaching children how to learn and how to reflect on their own learning
The school emphasises an experiential approach to learning and the use of learning technologies, which empower students to harness the global resources increasingly available to them in their daily lives.
The content, breadth and resources of the learning program are reviewed annually, so that learning is responsive to the changing nature of society. Details of the full learning program are published in the academic handbooks available from each campus.
The Class of 2007 achieved impressive VCE results and made a fine contribution to school life during their years at Caulfield Grammar School.
