What Parents want from a School
Caulfield Grammar School recently conducted a survey asking parents and students what they wanted and expected from a school and received responses as varied as the individuals themselves. Most parents want their children to be prepared for the world - intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially. They want the school to guide them, nurture them, challenge and prepare them and open their minds to the varied possibilities that life has to offer. They want them to be happy. They want a school that is aligned to their values and what they hold to be important.
What Students want from a School
Students want the same things but generally expressed this in different ways with a shorter-term view. They want skills, they want to be shown the opportunities before them, and they want a solid academic grounding so that further study and employment options are kept wide open.
Choosing a School
Deciding on a school for a daughter or son is a tough decision. Most schools recognise this and try to assist parents by providing numerous opportunities for parents and their children to see the school, to understand the school ethos, to meet students and staff and to find out about the scope of learning opportunities. Start looking at schools early, possibly four years before your daughter or son's first year.
When you have made an enquiry at Caulfield Grammar School, you can expect to receive regular updates on school news via the magazine, Labora, and invitations to key events, such as open days, concerts and information sessions.
Open Days, newsletters and the school prospectus may not answer all of your queries, so parents should feel comfortable directing their questions to the school - after all, it's likely that you will entrust many years of your child's future to the school.
