Celebrating STEM in our Junior Schools
Our students have been deep-diving into STEM with lots of interactive activities to incite curiosity and creativity.
Year 6s used the Design Process to create and race Sphero Chariots at the end of Term 3. It was the perfect introduction to an even greater challenge in Term 4 – making and racing Billy Carts!
Year 3s learned hands-on about nutrition and heat energy by making veggie soup and pizza using vegetables from their Malvern Campus Vegetable Patch. What better way to cover both STEM and PE & Health! And from all accounts, the soup and pizzas were delicious!
National Science Week was filled with learning and curiosity in our Junior Schools.
Wheelers Hill Junior students made fossils & lava lamps and raced soap-powered boats during lunch-time science club, harvested carrots from our kitchen garden to make a tasty dip, tackled exciting STEM challenges with mystery boxes, watched science come alive in the Big Science Show, and concluded the week with a Junior School Day dedicated to STEM learning.
Malvern Campus Years 3 and 4 students worked in House teams to create a habitat diorama for their House colour while Preps–Year 2s created animals to live in these habitats. Years 5 and 6 House teams competed in an exciting Escape Room related to the science behind conservation work and the survival of species.
