Last week our School community had the privilege of watching and listening to almost 800 of our students come together to share their music at the Caulfield Grammar in Concert. From ELC to Year 12, from solos and choral to woodwind and percussion, this concert in the majestic surrounds of Hamer Hall was the culmination of months of hard work and the audience was both enthralled and inspired by what our students have achieved.

Simon Walter, Director of Music, introduced the night with these words:

“Music is at the heart of our school community. It’s not just about learning notes or mastering techniques – through music, our students learn discipline, teamwork and perseverance. They grow both intellectually and emotionally, gaining skills that will serve them well beyond tonight’s performance. These experiences of playing and performing together help students connect, build friendships, and develop confidence, both on and off the stage.

Since our last concert in 2022, our students have had an exciting year of performances and opportunities that have enriched their musical journeys. From local campus concerts to large-scale events like tours and festivals, they’ve honed their craft, embraced challenges, and celebrated many milestones. Some of the key events from this year include: Music Scholars’ Showcase, multiple soirees, House Music events, Campus concerts, Jazz nights, A Little Night Music, Stage Band Tours to Generations in Jazz, Concerto Concert, Wind Ensemble Tour to Ballarat, Eisteddfods, Victorian School Music Festival, Battle of the Bands … to name but a few!

Tonight holds particular significance for our senior students, many of whom are performing at Hamer Hall for the last time. These students have been role models and leaders in our music program. Their dedication, energy, and love for music have set a high standard for those following in their footsteps. They’ve mentored younger students, contributed to ensembles with passion, and have shown what it means to be a true team player. We’re proud of their achievements, and we look forward to seeing where their musical journeys take them in the future. Their presence will be missed, but their impact on our music community will certainly endure.

Of course, none of this would be possible without our dedicated Music Staff. Their expertise, patience, and enthusiasm inspire our students to reach their full potential. They are the driving force behind the scenes, guiding our young musicians every step of the way. Their commitment to fostering both individual growth and ensemble excellence is a big reason why our music program continues to thrive. We are deeply grateful for the countless hours they invest in our students and for the care they bring to their teaching.

Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to the parents and families who support our musicians every day. Your encouragement has been essential in helping them reach this point, and we’re so glad you’re here to share in their success.

We hope you enjoy tonight’s performances and leave feeling as proud of our students as we do. It’s an evening to celebrate their hard work, their passion, and their love of music.”
