Values in Action – Meet Matthew

Our ‘Values in Action’ series shines a light on how our Caulfield Grammar School employees live our School values.
Pursuing Excellence is an ongoing commitment to individual and collective growth through
perseverance, collaboration and resilience. 

Matthew Field, Head of Tennis at Caulfield Grammar, shares how Pursuing Excellence is about providing opportunities and learning in a positive environment.  

I have been playing tennis since I was eight years old and have played competitively both at home and overseas for much of my life. I have been coaching tennis for more than 20 years and am TA Club Pro Qualified and USPTA qualified. I also worked as National Account Manager at Vitaco Health, who own leading health and wellness brands in Australia and New Zealand.  

I am passionate about sport and health, and the opportunity to run tennis programs in an elite learning environment was what motivated me to come across and run the tennis program at Caulfield Grammar. 

As Head of Tennis at Caulfield Grammar School, I provide a pathway for development within the APS Program. One of the highlights of working here is the positive learning environment – seeing all the students out on court smiling and having fun – and being able to give students the opportunity to develop a skillset and a mindset for life.  

Tennis is all about setting standards whilst having a plan and purpose in a fun and positive environment. Most importantly, it’s about providing opportunities for everyone within the tennis program. The School value of ‘Pursuing Excellence’ really resonates for me as it’s about all these things and more. I like that we have these values as a School community because it is a reminder for me to try and live those values daily in everything I do here. 

Caulfield Grammar School is a values-led school. Our five School Values guide the way we work together and behave. Active interaction with these values supports our students and staff in having clarity and ownership about what it means to be a member of the Caulfield Grammar School community – how we treat each other, and what we expect from each other.
