Tim O’Connor

Head of yarra junction campus

Tim is passionate about leading the unique Education Outdoors program at Yarra Junction Campus, delivering memorable and hands-on learning opportunities for students in an inspiring natural learning environment. It’s a program that’s meaningfully connected to their everyday lives, allowing skills to be transferred and conceptual understanding to be built upon. Tim takes pride in leading a carefully sequenced program that sees a student’s Yarra Junction learning journey commence in Junior School, form a key part of their Middle School curriculum, and offer substantial opportunities to continue into their Senior Schooling.

Tim joined Caulfield Grammar in 2006, excited to work for a school with clear purpose and vision for Education Outdoors as part of a holistic education for students. He has worked as an Education Outdoors teacher and held the position of Deputy Head of Yarra Junction Campus for six years prior to being appointed Head of Yarra Junction Campus in 2017. Prior to Caulfield Grammar School, Tim worked in a range of settings in the outdoor education and recreation sector, including journey-based programs, recreational hardtop camps in Australia and overseas, American summer camps, and school environment-based programs.

Tim strongly believes in the transformative potential of well-designed and facilitated immersion experiences. Such experiences can increase student self-efficacy, enhance the skills need to support healthy communities and inspire a sense of awe and wonder for the natural world. To achieve such powerful outcomes, Tim leads a staff team who prioritises student wellbeing, promotes inquiry-based learning, and fosters positive experiences in the natural environment.

Tim can often be found courtside on weekends, taking much pleasure in watching his children enjoy their basketball games. When time allows, he loves nothing more than escaping to the beautiful Victorian coastline with his family.
