Who Leads The Way

At Caulfield Grammar School we believe that all students can develop and demonstrate leadership, regardless of a formal title or badge.

Service leadership and developing an understanding of the responsibilities that come with being a part of local and global communities are the focus of the many opportunities that students are provided throughout their school journey.

Students can nominate for formal leadership roles as well as student-led committees across Junior and Secondary Schools in their areas of passion – from House Captaincy, Community Service, Wellbeing, Environment & Sustainability to Sport, Wellbeing, Theatre, Music, Debating and STEM by way of example.

There are also informal leadership opportunities integrated within our International Baccalaureate (IB) student-led inquiry approach to teaching and learning within day-to-day academic and co-curricular programs. Leadership exposure and experience is age-appropriate, increasing in challenge and personal growth as students transition through their school years.

Our ‘Year 13’ traineeships, integral elements of our Year 9 Kakadu Program along with our YJ Education Outdoors and Sport programs, give graduates an opportunity beyond school to gain valuable on-the-job work experience, provide care as a relatable student mentor, and receive ongoing professional development.

All leadership experiences cultivate essential life skills and play a pivotal role in role-modelling our School Values and behaviours as well as shaping our School culture.

“We are here to make mistakes and learn from them. Even if it’s out of your comfort zone … take that step, fly! These experiences will give you skills that are valuable for life … skills that will develop your character and build who you are. These experiences will create memories you’ll cherish forever.”

Ruby Waddingham
2023 School Co-Captain
Wheelers Hill Secondary

“If we live our lives in fear of what other people will think of us and what other people expect of us, we’ll miss the chance to pursue the very things that shape us, the moments that we have a passion for, the moments we have learned from, the moments we are proud of, and the moments that will form the true core of our high school experiences.”

Cuba Cellier
2023 School Co-Captain

“We can’t do things alone. We need people in our lives who can support our journey – people to appreciate and celebrate the highs with, and people to guide us through the lows … Embrace your emotions. Embrace your people. Open up. Share. Be vulnerable.”

Natasha Ekelmans
2023 School Co-Captain

“Every experience you collect in your life comes together to paint the version of you that you are today … While success is a satisfying addition to life that deserves celebrating, it is not the pinnacle of our existence. It’s not often that you’re reminded to be proud of yourself for the way you’ve grown or evolved.”
