“Good Education is discomfort in a safe place.” Ashleigh Martin, Principal

Our Commitment to Reconciliation

Caulfield Grammar School’s vision for reconciliation is to build knowledge, understanding and pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions in all members of our community; students, staff, parents and partners. To see, hear and feel progress.

Building ‘Inclusive and Connected Communities’ is a strategic goal detailed in our ‘Strategy 2031’, where we aim to foster a socially conscious School that builds diverse communities and lifelong connections.

We are committed to becoming the school of choice for local Indigenous families and lead through action on the path to tangible and meaningful reconciliation. In doing so, we will enrich all members of our community, nurturing Australia’s future First Nations leaders to be enabled and empowered for whatever path they choose.

More than 75 years ago, Caulfield Grammar School established Australia’s first outdoor education program at our Yarra Junction Campus. In that time, the program has evolved and changed, but the one thing that remains true, is our School’s commitment to experiential learning.

  • In 1999, Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Ian Hunter began connecting our program to Country and has shared the stories of the Wurundjeri people with thousands of students.
  • In 2015, passionate staff formed the CGSMob, a group of staff from across the School who meet to develop ways in which Caulfield Grammar can promote reconciliation and recognition of our Indigenous past, present and future.
  • In 2018, the Caulfield Grammar School Foundation established an Indigenous Scholarship Program. This was a significant step forward in our connection with communities and providing opportunities to Indigenous students and families. At the same time, we took our first students into Kakadu National Park as part of our Odyssey program.
  • In 2021, we established a Year 9 Student Experience program in Jabiru.
  • In 2022, we submitted our first Reconciliation Action Plan.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan commits Caulfield Grammar School to a path of action that focuses on strengthening relationships, respect and opportunities in the classroom, around our school and with communities local to each of our campuses and programs.
