A Pathway to Reconciliation

National Reconciliation Week was a powerful opportunity for our School community to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and reflect on how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. There were many activities and assemblies and guest speakers at each of our campuses.

At our Yarra Junction Campus, students crossed the YJ bridge in a symbolic gesture of our commitment to closing the gap, and created leaves that reflected on their actions past and present in response to the #NRW2025 theme ‘Bridging Now to Next’.

Our Year 9 students at Kakadu also created leaf reflections alongside students from Jabiru Area School.

Wheelers Hill Campus heard from Henry Purcell, a Grammarian, activist and DJ. Henry works in child protection for the same organisation that facilitated his own adoption. He hosts his own radio show on Kiss FM, using music as a way to bring people together, share messages, raise issues and improve emotional health and wellbeing. Our student musicians also performed a moving composition ‘Past, Present (and Emerging)’ from Grammarian Kylie Cheah, which she created as part of her VCE Music Units 3 & 4 Composition studies in 2022.

Caulfield Campus welcomed Nartasha Bamblett and Ganga Giri from Queen Acknowledgements, an organisation committed to making an impact through connection to self, culture and Country. They shared traditional dances and a didgeridoo performance, as well as their intention to bring long-lasting positive change through identifying intergenerational trauma and transforming it into intergenerational healing.
