The Little Mermaid Musical dives into Wheelers Hill Campus

A sand-sational splash by our Junior School students

The Wheelers Hill Campus Middle School production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR was a spectacular showcase of creativity, teamwork and sheer joy in performance. Presented by our Years 7–9 students across three sold-out evenings, the production made a splash with audiences of all ages, who were treated to a colourful, whimsical journey beneath the waves.

From the moment the curtain rose, the stage burst to life with vibrant sea creatures, dazzling costumes, a shimmering deep-ocean backdrop and playful choreography that truly made it feel like an underwater adventure. Students poured their heart and soul into every song, dance and scene, filling the Wheelers Hill Memorial Hall with music, energy and plenty of laughs.

Adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and iconic motion picture, the show followed the spirited young mermaid Ariel as she dreamed of leaving the ocean – and her fins – behind to explore the ‘human’ world above. To follow her heart, she had to defy her father, King Triton, outwit the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince Prince Eric that she was the girl with the enchanting voice he had been seeking. While the timeless story of Ariel’s longing provided the narrative backdrop, it was the students’ enthusiastic energy, imagination and creativity that truly shone.

The season opened to glowing praise, with audiences celebrating the professionalism, confidence and joy radiating from the cast. Supported by a hardworking and resourceful production team, the cast and crew delivered an unforgettable experience that highlighted not only their remarkable talent but also their commitment to bringing this much-loved story to life.

With its clever staging, humour and heartfelt performances, The Little Mermaid JR was a magical reminder of what can happen when imagination, collaboration and hard work come together – a show that delighted both the young and the young at heart.
