Together for Humanity Youth Summit

Year 8 students at Wheelers Hill Campus came together for the Together for Humanity Youth Summit, now proudly in its third year. In partnership with Together For Humanity, our Year 8 Learning Mentor team designed a powerful three‑day, low‑tech program centred on the theme of inclusion and belonging – inviting students to think deeply, listen openly and engage meaningfully with one another.

The Summit opened with a moving Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country led by proud Indigenous artist Dylan Charles. His presence and storytelling set a reflective tone for the days ahead, encouraging students to ground their learning in respect, cultural awareness and shared humanity.

Across workshops, guest speaker sessions and collaborative learning experiences, students explored big questions about identity, empathy and community. They were challenged to consider diverse perspectives, engage in honest dialogue and reflect on the ways they can contribute to a more inclusive school and society.

On the final day, students stood before community leaders – including Dr Beau Hu‑Jia, National School Partnerships Manager at Together For Humanity – to present group projects advocating for change. Their proposals demonstrated principled action, thoughtful analysis and a genuine commitment to issues that matter to them and to our broader community.

Watching our young people step forward as courageous, thoughtful changemakers has been the true highlight. Their willingness to listen, collaborate and lead with compassion reflects the values we strive to nurture at Wheelers Hill Campus. The Together for Humanity Youth Summit continues to be a transformative experience, empowering students to recognise their capacity to shape a more inclusive future.
