Caulfield Aquatic Centre
MELBOURNE, Monday 24 February 2020
Caulfield Grammar School has moved today to correct inaccurate recent reporting on its new swimming facility, the Caulfield Aquatic Centre.
An article published in Nine Newspapers on Sunday – and subsequent reports – incorrectly assert that Caulfield Grammar School has taken the decision not to name the Caulfield Campus Aquatic Centre after former student and Olympic champion, Mack Horton.
Caulfield Grammar School Principal, Ashleigh Martin, said: “The School has not started a process for naming the facility after any individual, or decided at this time if it will be named after any individual. The naming of buildings at Caufield Grammar School is a School Council decision, and discussions relating to the naming of the Caulfield Aquatic Centre have not commenced.”
Mr Martin has been in regular contact with the Horton family over the weekend.
“I have communicated with the Horton family regularly over the weekend to reiterate Caulfield’s gratitude for their long association and ongoing involvement in our School,” Mr Martin said.
“Caulfield Grammar School and its community have great pride, respect and admiration for Mack Horton, as both an Olympic swimmer and as a Caulfield Grammarian.”
The School has communicated with its community and wider stakeholder base today to clarify the situation and address the misinformation.
